Displaying the score during a live YouTube sports stream keeps your audience engaged, updated and watching. Integrating real-time sports data into your OBS stream is quick with the OBScoreboard. You can track time, cards and the score to improve the viewer’s experience.

Let me show you how to set it up.

Understanding OBS and OBScoreboard:

OBS is a free, open-source software that allows you to capture and stream video content in real time. It’s highly customizable, making it a favourite among live streamers.

Thanks to the flexibility of OBS, you can add overlays to your streams like live scores. OBScoreboard is a specialized tool in this department, covering soccer, rugby, tennis, darts and Gaelic football to name a few.

The scoreboard reveals the time, cards and the score for rugby and soccer games. However, it’s more robust for tennis, where tie breaks and match points can be displayed.

How Do I Add A Scoreboard to Live Stream OBS?

1. Setting Up OBS:

  • Download OBS: Visit the OBS  website and install it on your computer. Windows, MacOS and Linux all support the streaming software.

2. Integrating OBScoreboard as a Browser Source:

  • Add a New Source: Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the plus (+) button in the Sources tab, then select “Browser.
The + sign you need to click on OBS Studio to create a new OBS scoreboard overlay.
  • Enter the OBScoreboard URL: Type obscoreboard.com/scoreboard into the URL field. I suggest setting the width to 1000 pixels to ensure the scoreboard fits well within your stream layout.

  • Enable Auto-Launch: Remember to include the /scoreboard extension in the URL. This prompts the overlay to automatically launch every time you open OBS, saving you time.

3. Customizing OBScoreboard in OBS:

  • Adjust the Scoreboard’s Position: Once the scoreboard appears, I suggest resizing and repositioning it for a better viewing experience. Press and hold down the “Alt” key while dragging the borders to crop it as needed. Ensure that the controls are hidden to avoid displaying them to the viewer.

  • Place the scoreboard in Top Left: Drag the scoreboard to the desired location on the screen. I usually place it in the top left to avoid covering any part of the pitch or the action. However, the choice is yours.
